UCLA Black Immigrant Health Event

The African Coalition was honored to serve as a panelist at the Black Immigrant Health event hosted by the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. This critical forum brought together health professionals, students, and community advocates to shed light on the unique health disparities impacting the African Diaspora in Los Angeles County. As part of the panel, we highlighted the systemic barriers that Black immigrant populations face in accessing equitable healthcare—including language access, cultural stigma, and socioeconomic challenges. We also underscored the importance of culturally competent care and the urgent need for policies that center immigrant voices in public health planning. A key focus of the event was inspiring and empowering the emerging cohort of medical students to take an active role in addressing these disparities. By equipping future healthcare providers with the knowledge and tools to serve Black immigrant communities effectively, we can begin to close longstanding gaps and build a more inclusive and responsive healthcare system.
