Family Fun Day Community Celebration

On June 27, the African Coalition proudly hosted a vibrant Family Fun Day in Antelope Valley to mark the conclusion of our Substance Abuse Awareness Campaign, with a special focus on fentanyl prevention and youth empowerment. The event brought together over 300 community members, including families with young children and senior residents from across the region.

The day was filled with free resources, live performances, youth activities, and prizes, creating a welcoming space where prevention met celebration. Our goal was to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl use while promoting healthy choices and community resilience through education and engagement.

A powerful highlight of the day was the spoken word performance by our very own Youth Mental Health Ambassadors—local young leaders recruited and trained through the African Coalition’s community health initiatives. Their message, “Children should not just be seen—they should be heard,” echoed throughout the gathering and struck a deep chord with attendees. Their voices embodied the event’s core themes: visibility, voice, and empowerment for the next generation.

As music filled the air and families connected, the atmosphere radiated healing, hope, and collective strength. Family Fun Day was more than a community event—it was a demonstration of what’s possible when prevention efforts, youth leadership, and cultural celebration come together.
