On May 25, 2025, Africa Day was celebrated globally, highlighting the continent’s diverse cultures and contributions. The African Coalition played a key role in promoting unity, showcasing the strength and cultural richness of the African diaspora in Los Angeles and beyond.
In Los Angeles, this year’s commemoration was brought to life in a memorable evening hosted at Getty House, the official residence of Mayor Karen Bass. On behalf of Mayor Bass and The Getty House Foundation Board of Directors, heartfelt thanks were extended to all who participated in making the Africa Day 2025 celebration an unforgettable experience.
The celebration featured an incredible lineup of performers who brought African traditions to life through music and dance. DJ Yonas Michael kept the energy high throughout the evening, while moving performances by Abiodun Koya, Colleen Carney, the UCLA Nigerian Student Association Dance Team, Anindo Marshall, and the Debbie Allen Dance Academy showcased the artistic brilliance found across African cultures.
Guests were also treated to an authentic culinary experience by standout food vendors; African Chop, Messob Ethiopian Restaurant, Sahani Delight Kitchen, and Soul of Senegal who provided an array of flavors representing various regions of the continent. In the words of The Getty House Foundation: “We are so grateful to have shared this celebration with all of you, and we look forward to building on this tradition in the years to come.”
